Jean Towgood creates art work that focuses on the personal, political, and environmental issues that affect her life. She has had over 100 solo and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. and Canada and has participated in international theme exhibitions in Japan, China, England, France, Italy, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates. Her studio is in The Brewery Arts Complex in Los Angeles.

Towgood focuses on the “cracks” in nature – the places where the earth is still forming and transforming – volcanic eruptions, geysers, fires, storms, geographic erosion, and rocks and trees sliding into the ocean. Her aggressively composed and articulated paintings use a variety of media to present rich colors and dramatic surface textures. The work is abstract yet totally grounded in nature.
